Review by Colleen : Not super impressed
I purchased this mattress based on all the excellent reviews here. I know it's always risky to purchase a mattress without trying, but I figured it was worth the risk given the very reasonable price.I'd slept with a memory foam topper before and absolutely loved it, so I thought this mattress would measure up. Unfortunately I find it to be very uncomfortable. It's on the firm side, and there's only 2.5" of memory foam (vs. some pricier mattresses where the memory foam goes deeper). I just don't "sink in" to the mattress like I was hoping -- it's more like I hover on top of the foam. It gave me terrible back pain to sleep on my side, as my hips sank in slightly while my legs remained elevated. It doesn't have a lot of give to it. I only find it comfortable to sleep directly on my back.I ordered a memory foam topper to add on top of it, and that has made a huge difference. I bought the Sleep Studio 2-Inch ViscO2 Ventilated Memory Foam Mattress Topper, Queen. Adding that, I actually sink in and it feels like I'm sleeping on a cloud. If you're willing to spend more on a topper and a cushiony mattress pad, you can make this a very comfortable mattress. By itself it just doesn't do the job. Given the cheap price it still may be worth it.
Review by J. SPIEGEL "Joe" : I love this mattress!
Sleep Innovations 12-inch Sure Temp Memory Foam Mattress - Queen Size
For the past half year I've been researching memory foam mattresses to replace a less than comfortable 6 year old mattress. Six years is young in terms of the life of a mattress but comfort is important and quality is too. The old 12" Spring Air just wasn't living up to its part. Having the opportunity to test this queen size 12" memory foam mattress was too good to be true. I jumped at the opportunity. It was a perfect sized replacement, everything would fit.
The large heavy box arrived about a week after the order was placed. My UPS guy graciously rolled it into my apartment. I had a small furniture dolly that he put it on. That helped me move it to my living room where I would open it. I would advise, strongly, that you enlist a friend to help with moving this and your old mattress. I did not follow my advice. That said, let's open it up! I carefully, using a box cutter with its blade extended as little as I could, cut the tape sealing the box. Inside was a large cylindrical thing wrapped in heavy gauge plastic. Seeing that I knew I don't want to be cutting that with a box cutter. I tipped the box and hauled out the cylinder on to a flat sheet I spread out in front of my TV in the living room. I wanted to give the mattress the 48 hours it needed to expand. I have plenty of room here for it. To open the actual mattress package I enlisted a tool I knew would work well. A Scotch 3M Mail Opener that Amazon actually sells but dare I say not for this purpose. It worked perfectly, the blade is recessed and won't cut the foam yet it sliced through the plastic with ease. While slicing, the air started to rush in or out, not sure, but it made a hissing sound. The mattress quickly expanded to become a recognizable bed from the rolled lump it was. Once it rolled itself out and stabilized it was quiet and "mattressy." It has a cover that is white on the up side and yellowish on the underside. I'll upload a picture I took of the expanded mattress and the delivery box to give a size relation.
I gave the mattress 48 hours to settle and expand. I noticed that the outer skin fits better after the two day rest. It was then time to swap out the old mattress with the Sleep Innovations one. Like I said earlier, get a friend to help you move them. Queen mattresses are big heavy and clumsy. I got the Spring Air up on its side and slid it out of the way and did the same with the SI. It's a bit clumsy to slide it as it's got no handles and isn't easy to grab on to. Still I got it in on the box spring and took a short rest before I made the bed up. Then I got to test drive the bed properly with a well-deserved nap. My first experience on the SI mattress was quite nice. I did notice a faint smell of the foam, but it wasn't strong and has since dissipated. I've now also slept on the bed for a few nights now and have noticed a few points. It is firm yet the top is quite soft. I find it far more comfortable than the previous Spring Air. Night and Day, to be precise. When you lie on the bed there is a very obvious softness to the surface but you feel like you are fully supported. I'm a heavy guy and it feels GREAT. Another thing, sitting on the edge of the bed is very good. You feel, right, you don't feel like you're going to slide off. My old bed had a similar strong edge to it. This is very good for putting on socks or maybe watching TV while sitting on the edge. I do sometimes wake up with a back ache, not yet with this mattress but it is new and I'll reserve judgment. So far, though, very impressed and delighted. Did I say, I like it...?
If you have an existing bed you can use your existing box spring and frame to support the memory foam mattress. That will save you some money. The queen size is selling for just around $500 now on Amazon. Having shopped and considered the Tempur-Pedic brand, you may realize, this price is a steal. The 20 year warranty is very comforting too. I'll revisit this review over time and update it. Right now I'm delighted with it and heartily recommend it.
Review by Sleeping Better : Truth, this mattress rocks!
Okay, so here was my situation. When my pillow top mattress arrived years ago the delivery guys said they could not get it upstairs into my bedroom because they would have to bend it in order to get it up the stairs. Well, the sales guy at the store said the mattress could bend in order to fit it up the stairs so we told the delivery guys to just "get it up there!" They did and everything was fine, for awhile. Recently we noticed a large valley in the middle of the king sized, pillow top mattress. At first it was no big deal but the last month or so, it was HORRIBLE! So, I was on the hunt for a new mattress. I knew I needed a memory foam mattress because it needed to fit up stairs. And mind you, I don't live in an elf house but the doorway to the upstairs is at a strange angle so no spring mattresses will work.
What does everyone do when they start looking at memory foam mattresses? They look at that name brand memory foam mattress that costs thousands of dollars. I didn't really want to spend that much money, I mean, who does. But I would have if that was the only mattress that I felt was going to work for my wife and I. Now this part is important, I did a TON of research on the internet. No need to research folks, I did it for you! It came down to this mattress or the one available at Sam's Club. After doing more research and Amazon's great reputation, I decided to try this mattress. And I am SO GLAD that I did!
I ordered the mattress and it took a week and half to get to me. No problem. The shipping was free, yes free! So how could I complain? That mattress came in a box about 4.5 feet tall and about 2 feet deep. It was heavy, about 100 lbs. I was able to get it into the house and up my stairs by myself. Any man, in any decent kind of physical shape, will be able to push, pull, carry or drag the box into their house and up stairs. Some women can do it too I am sure! Not trying to be sexist, just realistic.
Anyway, I set up my new bed frame, the folding frame by Structure available and purchased from Amazon as well. This frame is great. SO EASY to put together! Just fold open and screw the two sides together done. Way easier and better for your memory foam mattress than a standard box spring. Once the frame was set up I opened the box and pulled out the mattress. The mattress will be FOLDED IN HALF and scrunched up so it looks like Z's from the side. It will also be in a plastic bag in which all the air has been sucked out. PUT THE MATTRESS ON THE FRAME BEFORE CUTTING OPEN THIS BAG. The down side of the mattress is blue. This is really the only part of the mattress that you will see in the bag since it is folded over. As long as the mattress is on the frame, you can turn it in the right direction after opening the bag. Carefully cut the bag open and you will start to hear the air being sucked in. The mattress will start to get bigger but no need to go super fast as you will have plenty of time to cut open the bag and pull it out from under the mattress.
Once the bag is off the mattress starts to get bigger and bigger and bigger. Once it opens up you will feel bumps an dips in the mattress. Don't worry, after an hour or two these will no longer be there. There is a smell. The room will smell as if you recently painted the walls. This smell slowly goes away. It really is no big deal. In fact, after I made up the bed, I could barely smell it.
The mattress does come with a protecter already over it but I would recommend putting your own on it as well. King size sheets went on perfectly. Hour after hour the mattress would feel better. I was really surprised how nice it felt.
Okay, so I opened the mattress around 1pm. At about 10pm my wife and I went up to bed. The mattress felt like a dream! It is a bit firm but once you lay down, you will slowly melt into it. You will not sink down 6 inches or anything like that, but you will melt in an inch or so. And it will feel fantastic! The mattress did feel a bit warmer than my old one, but IT WAS NOT HOT! You really won't notice a big difference. I slept great last night! Way better than my last mattress! One I paid around 2 grand for!!!! What a rip!
Here are some other things that I read in other reviews.
It is hard to get out of the bed. Not so. You can sit on the side, move around, get in and out. No problem.
"Non-sleeping activities" are tough in this bed. Not at all. If their are problems, it ain't the bed!
It stinks. Like I said before, like fresh paint in the room. But as of today, I smell nothing. No worries!
It is too firm. I don't think so. I usually like soft beds. But this one has changed my mind.
You must work for Amazon or Sleep Innovations. Haha. Nope. City employee who is hoping I have a pension in 20 years (fingers crossed).
I had MAJOR reservations about purchasing a mattress without ever trying it. But what was I going to do? I was kinda stuck. But I pulled the trigger on this mattress and I DON'T REGRET IT! Not one bit! If you are on the fence about purchasing this mattress, just DO IT! I have been looking at this mattress since Christmas! Yes, that long! I should have bought it then. I'm glad I did and like one poster said, if it only lasts 5 years, so what! I can buy another one for a fraction of the cost of the "name brand" memory foam mattress. But I don't see that as being a problem because everything about this mattress is impressive.
If you have any questions, I will check back and answer them for you.
Review by S. Potter : Absolutely Fabulous
Until this mattress arrived at my house, I had only ever slept on conventional inner spring mattresses. I simply did not believe all the memory foam hype and could not justify spending hundreds of dollars on a huge hunk of foam. After sleeping on this Sleep Innovations memory foam mattress for about one month now, I am a convert to memory foam sleeping. I can't imagine ever going back to an inner spring mattress. After my first night on the Sleep Innovations mattress I noticed my shoulders were not sore. I prefer to sleep on my sides. The ravages of time and a few sports injuries had left me unable to sleep for more than 40 minutes or so on my Sealy mattress or any of the others I tried. I did not expect the memory foam would change anything in that department so I was happily surprised when I awoke from my first memory foam sleep on my left side with no pain in my shoulder.Beyond the shoulder pain, inner spring mattresses leave my lower back aching after more than 7 or 8 hours of sleep. We all deserve to sleep in every now and then. With my Costco purchased Sealy, however, I was a perpetual early riser no matter how tired I was. My back ache has not reoccurred since switching to memory foam. My pressure points have not bothered me since the switch to foam.No sore back, no sore shoulders, and I sleep through the entire night without waking because of joint pain. This Sleep Innovations mattress is the epitome of comfort. Contrary to what I have heard, I don't feel any warmer sleeping on the foam as opposed to the springs. The foam is quiet when my wife or I change our sleep position. Even though this is a foam mattress, it is delightfully firm. For my kids, the coolest thing about this mattress was unpacking it. The mattress is fairly heavy and comes vacuum wrapped in plastic in a big (but not huge) box. It is important not to unpack the mattress until it is just where you want it. When I carefully sliced open the plastic the thing metamorphosed as the plastic wrapping hissed air. In under a minute the mattress was fully expanded on the box spring where I had placed it.I have no reservations recommending this product to anyone looking for a better night's sleep. If you are not sure about memory foam, take a test lie at a local mattress store. Buying a mattress is a bit of a leap of faith. A leap into the Sleep Innovations, though, certainly worth taking. My good fortune at being able to evaluate and review this product has improved my lift. Now I just have to figure out what to do with that old Sealy.
Review by Just Loves Books : Best Night Sleep We've Had in a Long Time
I received the 12-inch thick queen mattress. It came in a box about 40x24x24. It was hard to believe there was actually a queen size mattress in there. We took their advice and placed it on the bed where it was going to be left, and opened the vacuum sealed bag. The mattress expanded to most of it's full size within minutes, and the foam was completely expanded within a couple of hours. Some reviewers had commented on the foam smell, but it was very slight, and even though we didn't plan to, we could have slept on it the first night without it being a problem. My husband has a pinched nerve in his hip, and has a really hard time getting comfortable at night, but not on this one. He laid down on his back, let out a big ahhhh, made the comment that he didn't think he even needed a pillow with this mattress, that it was THAT comfortable, and was asleep within minutes. None of the usual tossing and turning.I have no problem getting to sleep, so my assessment came when I woke up the next morning. Nothing hurt. My back felt great, I was well rested, no soreness anywhere, and I was SOLD.I am in that age of hot flashes, so am miserable a lot of nights from that, but I had no problem with heat on this mattress. It stayed cool, even though it was foam, which was what I was worried about. But their claim that it does not trap heat was true.We are actually considering replacing our other mattresses with these. I know our overnight guests would love it when they come to visit. No springs to wear out. Buy it. You'll love it, and you'll sleep great!
Review by ccp : Not a Tempur Pedic but Maybe close ???
I have waited a month to do this review to be as accurate as possible on this purchase. We researched this purchase extensively before deciding to purchase prior to the holidays. We previously had a Simmons Euro top ultra plush king that only lasted 5 years before it started to become uncomfortable and bother my back. We went to numerous stores to lay on Tempur pedic mattresses and other brands. We could not justify spending $3000 on a mattress that we might not like. It seemed like people either loved or hated these memory foam products.
We were a bit apprehensive about purchasing online but the reviews of this product were mostly positive. At a third of the price i figured we couldn't go wrong. We did look at other companies but there were some concerns about the foam being used and where the products were being made. sleep innovations website was good and revlieved any fears on the foam etc.
We had free shipping but it did take close to 4 weeks to get the product which was a little surprising. It comes in a VERY small box that required two people to lift but it could easily be pushed. We opened it up on the foundation as diagramed in the instructions. It was quite cold but it still flattened out within about 2 hours. I have a sensitive nose and my wife even moreso and we noticed essentially NO smell which we were prepared for based on other reviews. We waited 2 days to sleep on it.
Here is where we found the difference between the Tempur Pedic product and the SI mattress. I found the mattress to be quite hard and honestly rather uncomfortable for the first 2 weeks. The "sink" in feeling of the TP beds just wasnt there. My wife was starting to get frusterated with it so we purchased a Down "topper" cover to go over it and PERFECT.... It is now much more comfortable and we are both sleeping better.
We are not big people but it seemed like we bottomed out the memory foam and were sleeping more on the hard foam product. In any event, now I feel like we have a good bed that is comfortable and will hopefully last at still a third of the price of a Tempur pedic.....But had to add the Topper to get the desired comfort we wanted...
Review by KawaiiShop : An unexpected love affair
If my Sleep Innovations 12-inch Sure Temp Memory Foam Mattress were a tall, dark and handsome man (preferably named Ben), I'd marry it. As it is, I'm perfectly happy just sleeping with it every night instead. What's so special about this mattress you ask? Well, here are just a few reasons it gets brownie points... - Resistant to dust mites and naturally antimicrobial. - Fire Retardant barrier inherent in the mattress. - Made in the USA using an environmentally friendly manufacturing process. - Comes with a limited 20-year manufacturers warranty. The 9.5-inch base is composed of premium base foam which molds to your body, providing therapeutic support and custom comfort. The top 2.5-inch layer of SureTemp Memory Foam provides a comfortable sleeping temperature through a patented, open-cell technology which provides superior airflow. Finally, these layers are overlaid by a luxurious, circular-knit, all-in-one mattress cover with recovering elasticity. Before this 12' of wonderful heat responsive memory foam beauty walked (er, was delivered by that guy in the cute little brown uniform) into our lives, all three of us slept on the couch. That was 4 months of complete torture on our backs. I'm not sure I can recall a time where I felt worse - on a daily basis. I was constantly tired, sluggish and achy. And probably snippity too. (yes, I just said snippity)When my new BFF arrived, I actually laughed and thought - what in the world is this? They must have sent me the wrong product. Seriously. There is NO WAY a Queen sized mattress could fit in THAT box. I almost cried at the thought of having to sleep even one more night on the couch, now affectionately known as the "Back Breaker".When I opened the top flap to see a huge bundle in what I can only describe as someone having performed "Extreme Vacuum Sealing" to, I was beyond thrilled. I may have done a cartwheel and fist pump for good measure, though I can't be sure, as it was a state of drunken bliss. We followed the directions and carefully broke the seal to allow the magical mattress to unfold on the platform Ben had lovingly built for it. It was much easier than I thought it would be and within mere seconds, there was a lovely bed upon which to rest our weary bodies. We immediately did so. And our backs have seriously, never felt better. We are used to a very plush, soft mattress and this one is a bit on the firmer side. I had bought a 4' memory foam topper to use on the couch so I placed it on top of this Sleep Innovations mattress and it is pure heaven.I actually used to be a very "active" sleeper, tossing and turning and waking up in the strangest positions. My friends have always known me to be a "sleeper" needing 8-10 hours of sleep a night.I'm now often shocked to wake up in the EXACT SAME position I was in when I feel asleep. And for the first time in my life, I am waking up after only 6-8 hours of sleep feeling fully refreshed and ready for the day.Thank you, Sleep Innovations!I love you.
